The love triangle Nishiki found herself in was finally resolved. First, Kano, then Takara. I don't want to spoil the ending, but that love triangle had ceased being a functional plot point by this time anyway, so having it wrapped up felt natural.Sometimes it's nice when a romance doesn't just go from point A to point B. There's a danger of subplots becoming filler or distractions from the main plot, but this story has done a good job of balancing that. There were three extra scenes in this volume that stood out to me. The first was Nishiki meeting the female doctor. That was nice character building for Nishiki and sets events up for the fifth volume. The other scene was between Nishiki and her mother as her mother came to realize how grown-up her little girl was becoming. Finally, the mom/"son-in-law" date with Atsumori was also helped develop the characters while moving the plot forward.The wrinkle with Atsumori's dad felt artificial to me—as if it was a sudden plot twist designed to give the main characters something to fret about in the next volume. I trust that Taamo will resolve things well, however. Sudden story developments and a lurching pace are common hazards in serialized stories as mangaka cater to their readers' and editors' whims.However, my least favorite scene was the final scene. I have never enjoyed the spurting nose metaphor for sexual excitement. I think there were so many ways that scene could've been resolved without relying on that old canard.Regardless, it was a strong volume. I look forward to the next one. I anticipate that the series will be all wrapped up by then—unless Taamo intends to continue the series into their collegiate years. Even so, the current story arc seems to be coming to a close. Nishiki is determined to be with Atsumori, regardless of what his parents think. Atsumori wants to be with Nishiki, regardless of what his parents say. Grampa gets sick, Mother comes to town, then Atsumori's Father suddenly seems willing to let Atsumori follow his dreams, because of his younger brother's decision? So, Atsumori invites Nishiki to go on a trip. On the train, he drops a bombshell on her... They're eloping! They end up at a hot springs inn, where Atsumori finally asks Nishiki THEE question. She's shocked! What will she do? Oh, and a bloody nose gets in the way of an amorous evening. All this, and a dog, too, in this volume of this cute little rom-com.
