Ebook About Deep within the nightmare realm of Casca's dreams, Schierke and Farnese battle endless horrors to reach the dark secret that has imprisoned Casca's mind for so long. But the dreamworld dangers are no mere phantasms of the unconscious--they are a lethal reality to the intruders from the material world! From creator Kentaro Miura comes the latest chapter of Berserk, a sprawling adult fantasy epic of horror, humor, and fierce imagination and the inspiration for the wildly popular anime series.Book Berserk Volume 40 Review :
I will try to avoid spoilers as much as I can but consider yourself warned.I've been waiting years for this book, the artwork is fantastic as always which is why I've given this 3 stars instead of 2.Except for the face eating the giant penis monsters, what is this a comedy now?!Kentaro messed up what could have been the best scene in the entire series! He wasted so much potential! The writing in this volume is despicable, I feel like I've just read a 13 year olds fan fiction. This is how Miura intends to resolve one of the most important plot points in the story?!In addition the last two volumes have been less than half as long as the volumes were before, You're getting less for your money now anyway.Miura needs to stop creating brand new mangas to work on and devote his attention to Berserk, It's like he just doesn't care anymore.Delivery was a day late, but other wise the book is as described.Edit: It seems as if my review has been misunderstood by some customers, so I’ll elaborate further.Miura was always good when telling story through facial expressions and symbolism, and he always had an amount of subtlety in his monster designs. But the meaning behind the giant penis monsters isn’t subtle in the least, which I can accept. The problem was when (SPOILERS) Shierke summoned an enlarged head of inquisitor Mozgus which I proceeded to protect them by slamming his mouth into the giant penis monsters.I’d include a picture, but I believe it would be against Amazon’s policies. There is nothing funny about what happened during the eclipse and I never claimed it was.I’m an avid reader of Berserk and have re read the entire series at least 20 times. That being said, I refuse to give Kentaro a free pass simply because he’s returned from his hiatus, I still value the quality of his work.UpdateUpon comparing the artwork to previous volumes, there’s been a considerable downgrade in quality. So I’m removing a the additional star I initially gave this for the artwork. I'm huge Berserk fan. I love it. The artwork, the dark story, the characters, I haven't disliked a volume until now. The most recent chapters are barely a shadow of what Berserk once was. The artwork is different (some say it is because Miura switched to digital illustration and that assistants are doing most of the work) and the story feels like Berserk Light. Sure, it's got some of the same monsters, but it seems that nothing bad can happen to any of the characters. It's turned into more of a light-hearted comedy series. The story doesn't really go anywhere, even when a pivotal moment occurs. The Casca storyline ends on a cliffhanger. The Griffith subplot has gone from somewhat interesting to totally boring. There really isn't any appeal in seeing literal gods mow down enemies. There are no longer any real stakes, for any of the characters. No-one can die, and none of the main characters will fight or have any kind of conflict where there is any danger.I have a hard time seeing where the story can go from here. Guts vs Griffith seems like it just isn't possible from where the story is now. The only way I can see it happening is if we just get a time skip or something and leave it unexplained. In my dreams, Guts and a sane Casca fight Griffith, together. That would be great, but it's a moment that I don't think will ever happen. At this point I think GRRM will finish the Game of Thrones series before Miura even advances the plot in Berserk.
