Book Sire: Beautiful Monsters Vol. 2 Review :

So, if you like immortals after dark series, you'll like this, provided that you are okay with a same sex couple being the main characters. It may not have the same concept of them finding their mates, but many of the same supernatural characters exist and are also hiding themselves from the majority of the human population.I really liked both of these books, the only thing that would have made it better, is if we got to see other point of views besides Matthew. But seriously, the author did such a great job of writing it that I was halfway through the first book before I realized we hadn't gotten anyone else's point of view.As a fan of series like Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and even Underworld, it was refreshing to see an LGBT version of this genre that was fleshed out and well written. I like the fact that our main character Matthew is pretty much fluid, he was married to a woman before and had a kid, with no hint of ever being attracted to men before he was turned into a vampire. But there is no denying the chemistry he has with Tarrick, the incubus General that was more than a little cruel to him in the first book. Yes, we have a classic case of stocklom syndrome, but as a reader we can't help hoping that Tarrick does care about him, but is just too proud to say it.This author set the perfect pace of action, suspense and sex, and even flings some humor in there every now and then is awesome. When the vampires think of making Mathew their leader, he's concerned about whether or not he'll get to wear jeans anymore. (Guess you can't be a leader and wear jeans =p) It was a joy reading the action scenes, seeing Matthew try to somehow come out on top giving his limited training and age. But as the storyline progresses, we learn why he's able to achieve these feats and who his mysterious sire is.Throwing Devak (the blood guardian) into the mix was definitely needed, especially since we went a good chunk of book 2 without Tarrick in it. I really liked them together and how Devak was so submissive to Matthew, despite being so powerful himself. Sam's addition as the oracle was really refreshing, and while we hoped not everything she predicted came true, she was usually spot on.My last pet peeve is, what's with the cliffhangers at the end of each story? I want a warm and fuzzy feeling when I finish reading, not a "I'm ready to pull my hair out because you ended it like that" feeling. Either way, I look forward to reading more of this series and from this author in general. Yay!
Captive left me needing answers. Who are Matthew’s parents? Who is his sire? Why the hell did Victor call him ‘prince?’Left with so many unanswered questions, I immediately dove into Sire. I devoured it. I will tell you that while we do get some answers, those answers only bring more questions and a hunger to know what is going on.Sire brings back all our favorite characters from Captive and introduces us to a whole new set of vampires, demons, a protector, and a mysterious girl. Jex’s character development and description of each, is absolute perfection. While some of these creatures are completely wild and totally out there, you believe they exist in this dark and violent world she has created.Matthew only wants to be left alone, but getting involved in the war is a necessity this time around. There are people out there that have something that he desperately needs.Nearing the end of Sire, I could feel something big was coming. I’m not going to lie, I was tremendously anxious to see where Jex was taking us. Once finished, I was beyond stunned, heartbroken and extremely livid.Stunned because of what we have learned.Heartbroken because Matthew deserves better.Livid because, no, not again. While I did learn more about Matthew and his past, Jex left me, once again, craving more.I have read some fantastic books this year, but only very few have kept my attention like this series. Jex Lane is a beast at writing angst, battle scenes, and her characters are simply fantastic.Up next, Broken: Beautiful Monsters Volume III.
