These are tender words heard by Cassidy from Julia on their first official date at the beginning of Damaged Goods, the sequel to the marvelous Don't Call Me Hero. There are many tender moments like these that will melt your heart and it's a good thing, too, because we also take a headlong dive into the horrors of Cassidy's PTSD and the graphic nature of the stories that are their root cause. Fortunately for Cassidy, Julia won't turn her back on her Marine. On the flip side, Cassidy continues to woo a woman she believes is out of her league. The story weaves its way around these two fascinating women and their intense love affair with the majority of the plot surrounding Cassidy's struggle to regain reinstatement with the Minneapolis police force. But what makes this story above the rest, and so much more interesting, is that they are a mismatched pair destined for each other because deep down they are very much the same - stubborn, proud, and incredibly strong. After their first date Cassidy tells Julia to "not take it easy on her" and while she is initially referring to what happens in the bedroom it ends up becoming a theme throughout the story. A challenge for the both of them to finally find love worthy of each other. This was a very good book. Cassidy’s PTSD experiences were so poignant. It’s really tragic that the USA government is really quick to encourage young people to join the military but not as quick in recognizing the damage PTSD does for those same young people.The relationship between Julia and Cassidy was sweet and sexy. Julia was very good understanding Cassidy’s ordeal with flashbacks and her ordeals with MPD and trying to get reinstated as a police officer.Overall a well written book with great characters!
